Amp Simulator
Based on a circuit idea from The LXH2 Website, I built a guitar amplifier simulator to simulate fenderish sounds. I modded the preamp voicing and the overdrive section to my taste.
It really gives amazing shimmering fender sounds and when overdriven (no extra pedals required) it takes off into Marshall territory. The pot adjustments of the pre and post-amp are very critical as the op-amps start to sound very bad once their output voltage reaches their supply rail voltage. When trying different diodes in the overdrive section the best sound (to my ears) was achieved by using "frosty" green 3mm LED's.
The preamp consists of input stage, passive EQ, overdrive and gain/buffer section. The post amp is basically a bunch of well arranged bandpass filters to mimic the pwr amp and speaker response with emphasis on their specific peaks and dips.
I used the AmpSim in together with my Yamaha Multitracker (as mixing console) and a simple Nanoverb Reverb unit in it's FX loop.
